Ceist:

164 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of ad hoc advisory groups in relation to policy or implementation established in his Department; the number of statutory committees; the number of other permanent groups; the number of interdepartmental groups; the cost of each in a full year; and the cost of individual advisers in the same period. [8599/99]

There are 21ad hoc advisory groups, three statutory committee/councils/authorities, two non-statutory committees/councils/authorities and four permanent committees currently in operation in the Department of Education and Science and ten interdepartmental committees, which are either chaired or jointly chaired by the Department of Education and Science.

The majority of these committees/groups comprise public servants who generally meet as part of their work requirements, and as such these committees/groups would not have dedicated budget lines. A list of each of these committees/groups follows. Where there is a specific budget, the 1998 figures are provided.
