Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

219 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that patients awaiting surgical procedures for cancer are being delayed access to Tallaght Hospital due to a shortage of intensive care beds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9051/99]

Tallaght Hospital management has confirmed to me that there are no delays of access to Tallaght Hospital to patients awaiting surgical procedures for cancer due to a shortage of intensive care beds. There are seven intensive care beds in use in Tallaght Hospital. This is the same number of this type of bed which was in use in the base hospitals before the transfer to Tallaght.

If the Deputy wishes to provide me with the details of any specific cases which he might have, I will be glad to make further inquiries with the hospital.
