Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Legislation on Fundraising.

Noel O'Flynn

Ceist:

285 Mr. O'Flynn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will cap the commission payable to street and house to house charity fundraisers at 15 per cent; and if he will introduce a legal requirement that not more than 25 per cent of the proceeds of any collection or lottery be used in the administration of that fundraising activity. [8841/99]

The issues raised by the Deputy were considered both by the committee on fundraising activities for charitable and other purposes and the subsequent report of the advisory group on charities/fundraising legislation.

Legislation to give effect to the recommendations contained in these reports is included in the Government's programme of legislation and is a priority item in the work programme for my Department. I assure the Deputy that the work on heads of a Bill will be advanced as quickly as possible in the light of the disposal of other legislative priorities.
