Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

255 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when persons (details supplied) in County Cork will be paid the remainder of a 1998 special beef premium; and the amount of money due to them. [10070/99]

Balancing payments under the 1998 special beef premium scheme are expected to issue next month.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

256 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason an extensification grant was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10071/99]

The person named applied for, and was paid on, 24 animals under the ten month special beef premium scheme and five animals under the 22 month special beef premium scheme in 1997. All 29 animals paid on were under two years and were, therefore, equivalent to 0.6 livestock units (LU) i.e. 17.4 LUs in total.

He also applied for, and was paid on, 36 cows under the 1997 suckler cow premium scheme and 60 ewes under the 1997 ewe premium scheme. Each ewe is equivalent to 0.15LU (60 x 0.15 = 9LUs). He declared 39.40 hectares on his 1997 area aid application.
The total livestock units for 1997 of 62.4 divided by the hectares declared of 39.40 give a stocking density of 1.58 LUs per hectare. Under the regulations the stocking density of the holding must be less than 1.4LU/hectare to qualify for extensification premium. Accordingly, as the stocking density of the person named was not less than 1.4 LU/hectare he has no entitlement to extensification premium in 1997.
The father of the person named leased his lands for ten years with effect from 1 March 1997 and subsequently declared 40.19 hectares on his 1997 area aid application on 12 May 1997. He also submitted applications under the ten month special beef premium scheme for 1997 on 13 February and 28 October 1997 and under the 22 month special beef premium scheme on 13 February, 6 August and 17 October 1997 and an application under the ewe premium and sheep headage schemes. The matter of declaring area aid in May on land that was leased out in March and subsequently submitting applications under the various schemes is currently being investigated by my Department.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

257 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork has not been paid December 1997 ten month beef premium. [10110/99]

The person named applied for special beef premium in respect of 13 animals on 3 December 1997. Computer validation highlighted matters which required correspondence with the applicant. These matters have been resolved in respect of all, bar two animals and payment is now being made on 11 of the animals.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

258 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if a person (details supplied) in County Cork will be paid 1998 sheep headage and premium grants. [10111/99]

The person named applied on 85 ewes under the 1998 ewe premium scheme. He was written to by my Department on 3 April 1998 and on 11 June 1998 with regard to any possible loss or disposal of animals applied on. To date, no reply has been received and until the information requested has been furnished the application under the 1998 ewe premium scheme cannot be further processed for payment.

The person named did not submit an application under the 1998 sheep headage scheme.

The person named applied on 34 cows under the 1998 suckler cow premium scheme. Two of the animals applied on had invalid tag numbers. He was written to by my Department on 24 August 1998, 6 October 1998 and 10 February 1999 requesting correct tag numbers for the animals in question. To date, no reply has been received. These invalid tag numbers must be corrected before the application can be processed further.
The person named did not submit an application under the 1998 cattle headage scheme.
