Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Court Accommodation.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

470 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received all of the necessary revised plans in relation to improvements at Macroom courthouse, County Cork; the next step in regard to processing this project; and if funding will be provided to complete these works in this financial year. [9700/99]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 160 of 5 November 1998 regarding this matter.

Priority is being given to those Court buildings which are in most use, that is, where there are offices located and a high volume of Court sittings. On this basis, work will commence in the very near future on Mallow courthouse and projects are being planned for the refurbishment of Youghal, Clonakilty and Fermoy courthouses which also involve District court offices. While revised plans have been received from Cork County Council for the refurbishment of Macroom courthouse, funding will not be available in the current year for this project given the other demands on the Courts Building Programme.

In any event, Bandon court sittings are being held in Macroom at present while improvement works are under way on the floor of the courthouse at Bandon which was in a dangerous condition and had to be closed to the public on the advice of the local authority engineer.
