My Department's involvement regarding age is under the Employment Equality Act, 1998, which was enacted in June 1998, and the Equal Status Bill, which was published on Monday, 19 April 1999. The Employment Equality Act, 1998, outlaws discrimination in employment on nine grounds, including age. The aim is to bring this Act into operation in September 1999. The equal status legislation will outlaw discrimination in non-employment areas on the same nine grounds.
