510 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number of applications received for funding for new swimming pools from sources other than local authorities. [9818/99]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 509 and 510 together.
Under the swimming pool programme, there are four applications awaiting approval in my Department, from bodies other than local authorities, for funding to build new pools. In addition, there is one application awaiting approval from a body other than a local authority, for funding to refurbish a pool. In all such cases, the proposals must be supported by the local authority before they can be considered.
Applications have also been received from seven bodies, other than a local authority, for funding swimming pools, six of them involving the refurbishment of existing pools, under the new sports capital programme. Almost 1,900 applications in all have been received under this programme covering a wide range of sporting facilities.
