Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

521 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science if a second visiting teacher for children with visual or hearing impairments will be made available in County Donegal in view of the size of the county; and if he will make a statement on the assistance available at second level for these students. [9557/99]

There are currently two visiting teachers catering for the needs of children with visual impairment in County Donegal. A further visiting teacher caters for the needs of hearing impaired children in the county.

A vacancy currently exists for the appointment of an additional full-time visiting teacher to the Donegal area. Pending the filling of this vacancy, a limited service is being provided by a visiting teacher from an adjacent county. Efforts are being made to ensure that the vacancy in question is filled as speedily as possible.

Ceist:

533 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to remedial staffing at Moyle national school, Newtowncunningham, County Donegal. [9601/99]

Michael Creed

Ceist:

572 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide remedial teaching service to all primary schools from 1 September 1999; and, if so, if Ballinagree, Rusheen, Bealnamarbh and Aghina national schools who have no remedial service will have this service available to them from September 1999. [9828/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 522, 533 and 572 together.

Arrangements are currently being made in my Department to extend the remedial teacher service to all first and second level schools with effect from September next.

The schools referred to by the Deputies will be included in this extension of the remedial teacher service.

Ceist:

523 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science if an additional remedial teacher will be made to a large cluster (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9559/99]

My priority at present is to ensure that all first and second level schools which currently have no remedial service will be given access to that service from September next. The necessary arrangements for this extension of the service are currently being made in my Department.

I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the schools to which she refers will be fully considered in the event of additional resources becoming available to improve existing remedial services.
