Tony Gregory

Ceist:

528 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received detailed submissions from Inchicore girls national school, Dublin 10 requesting a concessionary post and two extra classrooms; if so, his response to these requests; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9596/99]

Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

587 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the request for extra classrooms submitted to him by Inchicore girls national school in May 1998; if he will give approval for the classrooms; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9926/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 528 and 587 together.

An application for the provision of additional classroom accommodation at Inchicore girls national school is being processed in the planning section of my Department at present. The school authorities will be contacted as soon as a decision is taken in the matter.

A case has been made by the school for the allocation of a concessionary teaching post to address problems of educational disadvantage in the school. I can assure the Deputies that the needs of this school will be fully considered in the event of additional posts becoming available for allocation to schools in disadvantaged areas.
