Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

550 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason he will not proceed with phase two of a building project at St. Nessan's national school, Mungret, County Limerick; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that classes will continue to be housed in pre-fabs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9692/99]

Desmond J. O'Malley

Ceist:

568 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will allow phase two of the building programme for St. Nessan's national school, Mungret, County Limerick to commence in order that five permanent classrooms can be built to avoid the use of unsuitable prefabs. [9824/99]

I propose taking Questions Nos. 550 and 568 together.

Phase one of a building project consisting of a five-classroom extension, general purpose room and refurbishments is currently in progress at St. Nessan's national school, Mungret, County Limerick.

While every effort will be made to ensure that phase two proceeds as quickly as possible, I am not in a position to say at this point when construction will start. The prefabs referred to by the Deputies have all been provided since 1990 and are reported to be in good architectural condition.
