Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drainage Schemes.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

81 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Finance the work which remains to be undertaken on the Mulcair drainage scheme at Cappamore, County Limerick; when this work will commence; when it will be completed; if the work will be carried out directly by the Office of Public Works or by private contractors; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10020/99]

Works on the Mulcair River (Cappamore) certified drainage scheme commenced in 1998 and are currently in progress. The first phase of construction was carried out by Coffey Construction Ltd. and will be completed by the end of June this year, weather permitting. The tree-felling for winter 1998 is completed and temporary fencing is at present in progress. The work on the main channel will be carried out in accordance with the environmental constraints and is scheduled for completion by the end of next year. It is envisaged that most of the remaining work will be carried out by direct labour using Office of Public Works staff. One or two structures – bridges – may be completed by private contractors.
