Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Status.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

585 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if a concessionary teacher will be allocated to Inchicore girls national school in view of the special circumstances involved and in view of previous representations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9913/99]

Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

586 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the application by Inchicore girls national school for a concessionary teacher, in view of the fact that Inchicore boys national school, which caters for the same socio-economic families, was granted a concessionary teacher in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9925/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 585 and 586 together.

I am aware of the case made by the school in question for the allocation of a concessionary teacher post to address problems of educational disadvantage in the school.

I can assure the Deputies that the needs of the school to which they refer will be fully considered in the context of any additional initiatives which may be undertaken to address educational disadvantage in the primary sector.
