Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Ceist:

589 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application from Glen na Smol national school, Bohernabreena, Tallaght, Dublin 24, for a resource teacher and remedial teacher; when he will sanc tion these posts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9941/99]

I am aware that representations have been made to my Department seeking a remedial

teacher service and support for a number of pupils with disabilities attending the school in question.

With regard to the remedial service, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that as a result of the recent budget my Department is currently arranging to extend the remedial teacher service to all primary schools which are currently without such a service. The extension in question will take effect from September next. The school to which the Deputy refers will be included in this extension.

With regard to pupils with disabilities attending the school, I have asked my Department's inspectorate to investigate what, if any, additional resources are required to address the needs of the children in question.
