100 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Finance the number of occasions his Department has decided in the first instance that it was in the public interest to release records further to a request under the Freedom of Information Act, 1997 to which section 19 of the Act applied; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Section 19 of the Freedom of Information Act, 1997, contains no provision for the release of records in the public interest.
In the absence of such a provision, neither my Department nor any other public body operating under the Act has made or can make a decision for the release of records in public interest grounds under section 19 of the Freedom of Information Act.
