Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Naval Service.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

131 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Defence if an offer can be made to accommodate the 11 naval service personnel based at naval headquarters, Coláiste Caoimhín, Glasnevin, Dublin 11, in view of the proposed transfer of the naval headquarters to the naval base, Haulbowline, County Cork; the communication, if any, made to the 11 people in Glasnevin; if arrangements can be made to accommodate these personnel within other Departments in Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11722/99]

The relocation of naval service headquarters to Haulbowline and air corps headquarters to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel was one of the recommendations of the recent review of the naval service and air corps. I have directed that with effect from 1 July 1999, naval service headquarters will be located at the naval base, Haulbowline and air corps headquarters at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel. All issues, including the deployment of personnel are being examined in the general context of relocation planning which is ongoing at present. The naval service are in the process of identifying possible suitable appointments in the defence forces in the Dublin area into which naval service headquarters staff who do not wish to relocate to the naval base, Haulbowline might be transferred.

All personnel are being kept advised of progress in the matter.
