Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - Natural Heritage Areas.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

236 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 332 of 9 March 1999, she will report on the investigations by her Department into the damage of the proposed natural heritage area at Ballybetagh Bog; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12159/99]

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 332 of 9 March 1999, the archaeological and wildlife staff of Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, in consultation with the geological survey office and the National Museum, are assessing the situation with a view to remedying any damage done and exploring what measures need to be undertaken to secure this site. I would like to assure the Deputy that I share his concern that this proposed natural heritage area must be protected and preserved.
