I understand from the Eastern Health Board that the area concerned forms part of land recently disposed of by the board. This area is near the boiler house and was principally used for tipping ash from the turf-fired boilers and from the hospital incinerator. This use was discontinued in the late 1980s. Engineering and environmental consultants studied the area prior to the sale of the lands and their findings were made known to prospective purchasers.
Under the Waste Management Act, 1996, responsibility for any waste material would be a matter between the owner of the site and Fingal County Council which is the statutory authority controlling waste activities in the area. Matters between the Eastern Health Board, as vendor, and the purchaser of the site are of a contractual nature and are subject to the terms and conditions of sale.
