Vol. 504 No. 6

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

36 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources further to Parliamentary Question No. 22 of 11 February 1999 and previous Parliamentary Questions and corre spondence on the matter, when his Department and the Department of Finance officials will reach a final decision on their deliberation on the participation in the relevant superannuation scheme for the person concerned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12417/99]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that officials of my Department and the Department of Finance have concluded their deliberations on the question of the most appropriate and valid mechanism to facilitate participation in the relevant superannuation scheme by the person referred to by the Deputy and also to regularise a number of related superannuation issues.

The outcome of these deliberations is that Dublin Port Company will prepare and submit a number of new superannuation schemes for approval in accordance with section 40(1) of the Harbours Act, 1996. The new schemes will, inter alia, provide for an option provision scheme similar to that at section 41(1)(B)(i) of the 1996 Act. I am advised that the new schemes will be submitted by the company before the end of June 1999.

My Department and the Department of Finance have given an undertaking that the statutory consent process for the proposed new schemes will be processed as a priority.
