Vol. 504 No. 6

Written Answers. - Job Creation.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

44 Ms Coughlan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if the remit of the Donegal task force will be expanded to include the employment black spot of Ballyshannon; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12473/99]

The terms of reference of the Donegal employment initiative are to assess and recommend the most appropriate responses to offset and compensate for the expected job losses in particular areas of Donegal, and draw up a set of priority actions for establishing Donegal as a prime competitive and attractive location for job creation investment.

I am satisfied that the remit of the task force already covers a wide range of issues relevant to the whole of County Donegal, including the Ballyshannon area, such as infrastructure, education, training, the availability of suitable industrial sites, the promotion of foreign direct investment and the development of indigenous enterprise. The work of the task force is now well advanced and I understand a report on its progress should be finalised for presentation to me by the end of this month.
