Ceist:

109 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the current bed complement at Naas General Hospital with particular reference to medical and surgical beds; the expected bed complement for these beds provided for in the hospital development plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14188/99]

The total number of beds formally approved under Article 8 of the Health Services (In-patient) Regulations, 1991, as of 25 January 1999, in Naas General Hospital is 94. The designation of hospital beds into medical, surgical or other categories is a matter for the management of the hospital concerned and is subject to service demand.

The development of the hospital will include the following new accommodation:

Main entrance concourse and administration department;

Accident and emergency department;

Out patients department;

Physical medicine department;

Pharmacy department;

Chaplaincy department;

Radiology department (seven rooms including CT scan);

Medical records-admissions suite;

Geriatric day hospital;

Day services department (25 places);

Operating department (three theatres);

Intensive care unit (four beds);

Coronary care unit (six beds);

Geriatric assessment-rehabilitation ward (31 beds).

On completion of the development the hospital will have a total bed complement of 159 medical, surgical and other beds (including 25 day beds).
