55 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Health and Children when work will commence on the new hospital for Naas, County Kildare; and the length of time before the works will be completed and the hospital ready for opening. [14756/99]
Planning for the Phase 2 development of Naas General Hospital is at an advanced stage and it is expected that invitations to tender will issue in the very near future.
As the Deputy may be aware the timing of the completion of planning and tendering and the commencement and completion of construction for the development will depend on several variable factors which are difficult to assess accurately in advance and it is not possible for me therefore to give a precise timetable for the project. However, the design team's programme for the development anticipates a start on site in the autumn with completion of the works within two years.
