Vol. 507 No. 1

Written Answers. - Credit Union Savings.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

28 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Finance the contact, if any, he has had with the Irish League of Credit Unions since the publication of the report on the taxation of credit union savings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16127/99]

I have had no discussions with the Irish League of Credit Unions since I published the report of the working group on the taxation of returns on credit union savings in February last. However, I have received written requests from the Irish League of Credit Unions seeking changes to the taxation of returns on credit union member savings. In response to those requests I have indicated that this matter is a complex one, involving not only domestic, but also EU considerations. I am still considering this matter but as yet, I have no proposals in this regard.
