Vol. 507 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

David Stanton

Ceist:

45 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 104 of 24 March 1999, the further study recommended to assess the most cost efficient options for improving coastal defences at Youghal, County Cork, has commenced; the name of the company or group carrying out this assessment; when the assessment will be completed; when the cost protection works, involving extension of the existing groynes and beach nourishment, will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16243/99]

Arrangements for the carrying out of the further study on coast protection at Youghal are being made by Cork County Council. I understand that the county council expects to engage consultants to undertake this study shortly, and that their aim is to have it completed by October.

The options and funding needs for coast protection works at Youghal will be considered further when the results of the study are available.
