Ceist:261 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science his policy on the provision of capital to provide temporary accommodation for primary schools which do not have space to facilitate a remedial teacher. [16361/99]

Temporary accommodation is generally provided to cater for a short-term increase in enrolments which will not be sustained in the long-term or for an unforeseen and urgent accommodation need where it is not feasible to provide a permanent building at short notice.
In the case of a primary school seeking additional space to cater for a remedial teacher, the specific circumstances of the school would be assessed by the planning and building unit of my Department before a decision is taken on the type of accommodation to be provided.
