Vol. 507 No. 2

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

282 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 387 of 15 June 1999, the specific provision being made for persons requiring a psychological service. [16552/99]

As I stated in my answer to the previous question on 15 June, my Department does not, as yet, provide a psychological service to the school attended by the persons mentioned by the Deputy. However, I am concerned that children will not be left without psychological support during the transitional period of the development of the national educational psychological service agency.

Due to the imminence of the school summer holidays, it has not been possible as yet to make any specific arrangements in this case. However, a senior psychologist from my Department will contact the clinical services in the area to discuss how psychological support may be provided for these children.
