Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

John Bruton

Ceist:

428 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 83 of 22 April 1999, he has satisfied himself that professionals in the health services undertaking allergy testing are competent in the area in view of the fact that he is unwilling to introduce any system of recognition or registration of allergists. [17326/99]

As stated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 83 of 22 April 1999 I have no plans at present to formally recognise persons who provide allergy testing services on a commercial basis.

With regard to allergy testing carried out in a number of hospitals, the staff involved are qualified health professionals, who are recognised within their own professional registration/ accreditation systems and who meet the required standards/qualifications for employment in the health services.
