Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Millennium Projects.

Donal Carey

Ceist:

73 Mr. D. Carey asked the Taoiseach if his Department has received an official application for millennium grant aid for Shannon Century Park; if so, if it was examined by the official committee or its technical support; if he received a written request to make a full oral presentation of its feasibility study before the final decisions on funding allocations are made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17408/99]

An application for millennium funding for Shannon Century Park, submitted by the Royal Aeronautical Society, Shannon Regional Branch, was considered by the National Millennium Committee. The committee also received a proposal from the Department of Defence for a Irish Aviation heritage centre. In view of the similar themes of both projects, the committees' view was that the respective project proposers should consult with each other and examine the possibility of a joint proposal for consideration as a millennium project. I under stand that consultations between the Department of Defence and the proposers of the Shannon Century Park project has not yet concluded.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

74 Mr. Quinn asked the Taoiseach the progress to date of the Millennium Committee; when its proposals to mark the millennium will be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17753/99]

The progress to date of the National Millennium Committee is outlined in detail in the progress report which I circulated to all Members of the House yesterday. The National Millennium Committee was established in November 1998 to advise the Government on suitable projects for inclusion in the Government's millennium programme which covers the period 1999 through to the end of the year 2000.
