Written Answers. - Housing Management Initiative.

Ceist:

560 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of local authorities which applied for funding under the housing management initiative scheme; the sum of funds provided under this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17349/99]

The housing management initiative was initiated in 1995 to support pilot projects in the area of local authority housing management. The amount provided in 1995 and 1996 was £100,000 per annum. This was increased to £200,000 per annum in 1997 and subsequent years. The number of applications made and local authorities that applied for funding under the initiative is as follows:

1995-55 applications from 34 local authorities;

1996-57 applications from 34 local authorities;

1997-51 applications from 26 local authorities;

1998-37 applications from 24 local authorities; and,

1999-35 applications from 15 local authorities.
