Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Strategy.

John Bruton

Ceist:

704 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she has used section 12 of the Public Service Management Act, 1997, which allows for appropriate action to be taken on cross-departmental issues in a structured way; and the areas of work of her Department which are touching on the work of other Departments in respect of which cross departmental arrangements might be appropriate. [17367/99]

I have not to date made an order under section 12 (1) of the Public Service Management Act, 1997.

The following are areas of work of my Department which touch on the work of other Departments in respect of which cross-departmental arrangements might be appropriate: digital broadcasting in association with the Department of Public Enterprise and the Office of the Telecommunications Regulator; arts and education issues in association with the Department of Education and Science; coastal zone management in association with the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources and the Department of the Environment and Local Government; the information society in association with the Department of the Taoiseach; biodiversity in association with the Department of the Environment, Local Government, the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources; the Irish language and the Gaeltacht in association with all Departments and offices and offshore island development in association with all Departments.

I am, however, satisfied that the arrangements already in place for addressing these issues are operating satisfactorily.
