Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Iraqi Air Strikes.

Michael D. Higgins

Ceist:

105 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the Government's views on the continuing air strikes by Britain and the United States against Iraq; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17951/99]

The Government's views on the question of the US and British military activity against Iraqi air defences in the restricted flight zones in northern and southern Iraq have been expressed by me as Minister for Foreign Affairs on a number of occasions. I remain deeply concerned about the continuing use of force.

It cannot have other than negative consequences for the grave humanitarian situation facing the Iraqi people. The Government hopes that this activity will be ended as soon as possible.
