Vol. 508 No. 3

Written Answers - Local Authority Housing.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

109 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of people on local authority housing lists; the number of local authority houses which will be provided in 1999; and his views on whether there is a growing housing crisis. [18767/99]

Michael Bell

Ceist:

116 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of local authority new house completions for each of the years from 1997 to 1998; the number of expected completions in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18719/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 109 and 116 together.

Details of the number of dwellings completed/acquired by local authorities in 1997 and 1998 are published in my Department's Housing Statistics Bulletin, copies of which are available in the Library. It is estimated that local authorities will complete/acquire in excess of 3,700 houses this year.

I refer to my reply to Priority Question No. 57 on today's Order Paper in relation to details of the number of households on local authority housing lists.
