239 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Health and Children the budget received by each health board for each of the years from 1997 to 1999; the percentage and amount of funding in each health board which was used for administration, including salaries, for each of the three years; and the number of persons employed directly by each health board over the three years. [19972/99]
The figures requested by Mr. Reynolds are shown in the following tabular statement. The figures for 1997 and 1998 have been extracted from the annual financial statements of the health boards. These statements are submitted by the boards to the Department early in the following year. Therefore, the 1999 figures will not be available until March 2000. The financial figures for 1999 are the original determinations. The expenditure on administration includes those elements in respect of administration associated with direct patient care such, as for example, scheduling appointments and staff in accident and emergency departments.
It must be pointed out that the 1998 expenditure figures included in the table are unaudited. However it is unlikely that these figures will change significantly following the audit.
The personnel figures included are wholetime equivalent figures and include staff on career breaks.
