85 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of persons arrested and released without charge in each of the past seven years; the number charged but not convicted; the number charged and convicted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19746/99]

The Garda authorities have informed me that the statistics requested by the Deputy are not readily available and could be obtained only by the use of a disproportionate amount of staff time and resources. It would, in fact, involve an inquiry to every Garda station in the country.
