Vol. 509 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

46 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason his Department encourages employees in Marlborough Street, Dublin 1, to bring their cars into the city in contravention of Government policy. [20015/99]

My Department does not encourage employees in Marlborough Street to bring their cars into the city. On the contrary, due to the recent commencement of a major development project in the grounds of my Department's headquarters in Marlborough Street, there are now fewer spaces available for staff parking. The parking provision has been reduced by almost 50 per cent. Staff have been informed that it will not be possible to continue to provide previous levels of car parking facilities.

It is the policy of my Department to encourage staff to use public transport whenever possible.
