Vol. 509 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Curriculum.

John Bruton

Ceist:

85 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will introduce a system of national briefing meetings for all parents of primary school children to explain to them the changes being made in the primary school curriculum as a result of the revised curriculum introduced from September I999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17472/99]

A number of steps have already been taken to ensure that parents will have access to information in relation to the revised curriculum. A series of seminars for parents, organised at county level in conjunction with the National Parents Council – primary, has been underway since September and will continue.

In addition, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment is currently preparing a parents' booklet, which will provide information on the curriculum and an outline of how parents can support teaching and learning at home and in school. When published by my Department, copies of this document will be widely circulated. At that time, the primary curriculum support programme will arrange further seminars for parents.
