206 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if funds were allocated by the Office of Public Works five years ago for flood relief in certain areas (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if arrangements will be made to have the necessary works carried out to prevent the flooding which is causing serious damage in one particular school. Funding was not made available by my office five years ago for flood relief works for the areas in question. Funds are allocated annually on the basis of programmed works relating to the priority national drainage programme. This programme will absorb the resources of the Office of Public Works for the foreseeable future. My office would not therefore be in a position to consider a scheme(s) for the areas mentioned for some time to come.
