Vol. 509 No. 6

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Gormley. I call on Deputy Gormley to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following issue of urgent public importance: the public outrage being expressed at the writing off of bank loans to individual politicians and certain political parties and the need to ban corporate donations to Deputies and political parties in order to restore public confidence in the political process.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

That is a write-off.
