Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

367 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of appointments to State boards made by him since taking office; the details of each appointment; and the annual payments made to each appointee. [21547/99]

The number of persons I have appointed to the boards under the aegis of my Department since coming into office on 26 June, 1997 is 362. I am arranging to have a list of all those appointed with details of each appointment forwarded to the Deputy.

Remuneration paid to members of boards under the aegis of the Department of Health and Children is determined according to the relevant Act or statutory instrument establishing each board.

The level of remuneration of members of boards under the aegis of this Department is as follows:

Adoption Board: £2,000 per annum is paid to each ordinary member of the board. The full-time chairperson of the Adoption Board is paid a salary equivalent to a District Justice, currently £58,020, with an additional allowance of £577.

Blood Transfusion Service Board: £4,000 per annum is paid to the chairperson of the board.

Food Safety Authority of Ireland: £4,000 per annum is paid to the chairperson of the authority. Other members are paid £2,500 per annum.

Irish Medicines Board: £15,300 per annum is paid to the chairperson of the board.

Voluntary Health Insurance Board: £6,000 per annum is paid to the chairperson of the board. Other members of the board are paid £4,000 per annum.

The expenses, including travel and subsistence, incurred by each member of each board under the aegis of my Department is not available in the Department.
