Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

John Perry

Ceist:

650 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 888 of 29 September 1999, a case (details supplied) will be re-examined in view of the details supplied which will establish the need for a permanent French teacher; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21843/99]

As I indicated in my reply to the question referred to by the Deputy, the current level of permanency in the school concerned is such that no further permanent appointments can be made at this time.

In the event of a permanent vacancy arising in the school within the agreed limit of 95 per cent of the initial teacher allocation, it will be a matter for the board of management of the school in the first instance to decide on the subject area to be catered for and the post in question will have to be filled through open competition.
