Vol. 510 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

136 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the concerns of the people of Dingle, County Kerry, at the low levels of Garda numbers available to the town; the proposals, if any, he has, to increase the number; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21936/99]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas. They have informed me that the current personnel strength of Dingle Garda station – as of 30 October 1999 – is two sergeants and seven gardaí.

The Garda authorities have also informed me that there is an official marked patrol car allocated to Dingle which is utilised in policing the area. The Divisional Traffic Corps and District Detective Unit, along with other resources from within the administration area, augment the patrolling. Gardaí are also detailed, when possible, to perform town and beat patrols.

The Garda authorities have further informed me that the situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available, the needs of Dingle will be fully considered in the overall context of the needs of other Garda districts throughout the country.
