Vol. 510 No. 1

Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

25 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has satisfied herself on the adequacy of the public services in respect of which she has responsibility to meet requirements at 1 January 2000; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21211/99]

Nora Owen

Ceist:

84 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the current state of preparedness of her Department and any agencies attached to her Department with regard to year 2000; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21897/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 25 and 84 together.

My Department has achieved year 2000 compliance in respect of all its critical systems and, in addition, contingency and business continuity plans are in place to ensure that an adequate level of service will be maintained.

My Department reports to Government every two months on year 2000 compliance in respect of the State bodies under its aegis. Each of these bodies has confirmed that it is year 2000 compliant in respect of its critical systems, with the exception of the Irish National Petroleum Corporation, where some outstanding testing will be completed by mid-November. The appropriate contingency and business continuity plans are being put in place in all these State bodies to ensure adequate public services will be maintained. My Department continues to monitor the situation closely.
