Vol. 510 No. 2

Written Answers. - Deer Farming.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

105 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the incentives, if any, his Department employ to encourage deer farming as an alternative farm process; the level of subsidy on premium payments for farmers taking up the enterprise; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22117/99]

Deer farming was eligible for aid under the scheme of grant aid for investment in alternative farm enterprises which operated as part of the operational programme for agriculture, rural development and forestry 1994-99. The scheme closed to new applications on 4 October 1996. Proposals for a new scheme will form part of my Department's submission for the national development plan 2000-06 currently being drawn up.
