Vol. 510 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Howlin. I call on Deputy Howlin to state the matter.

In accordance with the terms of Standing Order 31, I give notice of my intention to seek to move the Adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following specific and important matter of public interest that requires urgent attention: the severe difficulties faced by asylum seekers following the closure yesterday of the refugee centre in Mount Street as a result of concern for the safety of staff and applicants; and the need to take steps to ensure the rapid reopening of the centre and the efficient provision of advice and assistance for asylum applicants in conditions that are secure and safe for staff and applicants.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
