Vol. 510 No. 3

Written Answers. - State Properties.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

226 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Finance when the house and lands at Farmleigh, Dublin 15, will be open to the public; if he will make the facilities available to community and sporting organisations in view of the demand for community facilities in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22686/99]

The Government decision of 15 June 1999 authorising the purchase of the Farmleigh estate stated that it should include uses such as accommodation for visiting Heads of State and other dignitaries; a venue for International and Government Meetings requiring residential accommodation; and any other State or cultural purposes for the benefit of the Irish people.

The Government recognises that it is important that the public be given the opportunity of enjoying the Farmleigh estate. Discussions on usage and the facilities required to support that usage, are ongoing at the moment. At this stage, a provisional date of autumn 2000 is envisaged for the coming into full use of the facility.
