Vol. 510 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

302 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if it is proposed to approve a design brief for the upgrading of the existing sewerage treatment plant in Kiltimagh with improvements and extensions to the collection system in the town and its environs. [22528/99]

A brief for the Kiltimagh sewerage scheme is with my Department since 1992 but has not been approved. Schemes not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme come within the terms of my Department's circular letter L9/98 of 22 October 1998, which asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment. The priority lists will be taken into consideration by my Department in framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the next National Development Plan 2000-06. The Kiltimagh sewerage scheme is eighth on Mayo County Council's priority list of sewerage schemes.
