Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

273 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Health and Children the status regarding the promised Alzheimer's unit for St. Ita's hospital, Newcastlewest, County Limerick; the amount of funding being allocated; and the amount required to provide the unit. [23573/99]

The Mid-Western Health Board initially sought £250,000 capital funding to undertake this project and provision was made in my Department's capital programme for this amount. However, having revised the scope of the scheme, the board has indicated that the total cost, including equipping, will be in the region of £550,000. I am having the matter examined in my Department to see how this additional cost can be met and the Mid-Western Health Board will be notified of the position as soon as possible.
