Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Olivia Mitchell

Ceist:

391 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will appoint a full-time principal to Our Lady's boys' national school, Balinteer, Dublin 6, in recognition of the special circumstances, for example, an autistic unit and a traveller class within the school, and where the workload of the principal is affecting the proper functioning of the school and an inconvenience to his own class. [23408/99]

The appointment of an administrative principal in the school referred to has been sanctioned in recognition of the special circumstances as outlined.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

392 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make an additional allocation of staff to Castleknock community college, Dublin 15, in view of the fact the pupils are spread between three buildings thereby increasing supervision problems and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23409/99]

In the vocational sector the teacher allocation is determined on a VEC scheme basis. It is a matter for the chief executive officer concerned, with the agreement of the VEC, to allocate teaching resources to individual schools in the scheme from within the approved allocation.

My Department is satisfied that the teacher allocation to County Dublin VEC for the 1999-2000 school year is sufficient to meet the needs of all of the schools within the scheme. The position will be reviewed for the 2000-01 school year.
