Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

90 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to provide the necessary finance in the forthcoming Estimates to enable stage 4 of the north-east Kerry regional water scheme to go to tender; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20382/99]

Contract documents for stage 4 of the north-east Kerry water supply scheme were submitted to my Department in 1991 but have not been approved. As the scheme is not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme, it comes within the terms of my Department's circular letter L9/98 of 22 October 1998. This circular asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment.

The priority lists will be taken into consideration by my Department when framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the national development plan 2000-06. This scheme is placed first on Kerry County Council's priority list.
