Vol. 511 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

81 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her attention has been drawn to proposals by CIE to quadruple the track capacity on the Maynooth suburban line; if she will support these proposals; the costs involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23781/99]

Current proposals for the upgrading of the Maynooth line are being implemented as set out in my reply of 3 November 1999 to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 87 and 88. A copy of the reply for ease of reference will be submitted to the Deputy.

The DTO transportation blueprint 2000-06 makes a number of recommendations in relation to the suburban rail network, which will be addressed in the national development plan. Apart from these, I have received no other proposals relevant to the Maynooth line. The strategic review of the suburban rail network being carried out by consultants Ove Arup may have implications for the Maynooth line. I expect to receive that report at the end of the year.
