Vol. 511 No. 2

Written Answers. - Third Level Entry Requirements.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

164 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a person (details supplied) in County Kildare is not accepted by a third level institute unless she undertakes an approved training course in veterinary nursing, which is a repeat of her course in 1998 which is an unapproved course; if he will rationalise the situation in these circumstances in view of the likely hardship to be caused in the event of the student having to repeat her pre-veterinary nursing course; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23973/99]

The issue of entry requirements for courses in third level institutes is a matter for the institutes themselves.

However, I have asked my Department to make inquiries with the Dublin Institute of Technology in respect of the person in question. When those inquiries have been completed, I will advise the Deputy of the situation.
